Strategies to Implement Multicultural Education in Communication Sciences and Disorders

Multicultural education is a foundational imperative for the field of communication sciences and disorders (CSD). The increasing cultural diversity United States’ population, which includes groups based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, implores effective implementation multicultural in CSD. can be defined as dynamic, multifaceted process that seeks to increase cross-cultural understanding culturally linguistically diverse (CLD) (See Sleeter, 1996; Ozturgut, 2011). Minimal training multiculturalism paired with limited awareness humility compounds ability educators students implement teaching, learning, clinical services (Horton-Ikard & Munoz, 2010; Victor, 2012). Furthermore, implicit techniques may not prove fail realize being implemented (Randolph Bradshaw, 2018). This article will discuss effectiveness various instructional models (e.g., independent course) provide evidence-based strategies cultivate support within CSD curriculum.
